Similac is an infant formula by Abbott Nutrition. It can be a supplement or alternative to breastfeeding for an infant.

Similac provides essential protein, minerals, and other nutrients to support an infant’s growth. The formulas have no artificial growth hormones. The dairy ingredients used in Similac formulas come from cows that are not been treated with artificial growth hormones.

Similac formulas are the first and only formulas with Human Milk Oligosaccharide.

Human Milk Oligosaccharides are the 3rd most abundant solid component of breast milk after fat and carbohydrates. They feed beneficial bacteria in the gut, where 70% of the immune system exists. Hence, Similac helps strengthen the immune system to be more like the breastfed infant.

Similac is available as Similac Pro-Advance and Pro-Sensitive.

Created in 1903, Abbott’s Nutrition is a division of Abbott, the global healthcare company. The passionate scientists and experts at Abbott Nutrition work hard to discover and develop nutrition formulas that better life for people of all ages. The goal of the company is to deliver nutrition products and education that meet the changing needs of families across the world. Abbott Nutrition makes products to help babies and children grow, that work to keep bodies strong, and that support the unique nutritional and therapeutic needs of adults.

The newborns requires many different vitamins and minerals that are crucial for both body development and preventing disease. These vitamins and minerals are often referred to as micronutrients.

A nutritional deficiency occurs when the body doesn’t absorb or get from food the necessary amount of a nutrient. Deficiencies can lead to a variety of health problems. These can include digestion problems, skin disorders, stunted or defective bone growth, and even dementia.

A lack of dietary folic acid leads to folate deficiency (FD). Low folate can also lead to homocysteine accumulation as a result of one carbon metabolism mechanism being impaired. DNA synthesis and repair are impaired and this could lead to cancer development.
