Powercort belongs to the category of Corticosteroids .It has unique humectants base complex which helps better hydration and helps faster skin turnover .Powercort has 3 major ingredients of which Clobestol is noted corticosteroid which exerts its action by inhibition of certain inflammatory mediators . Urea and lactic acid are keratolytics (softening the skin) and help to soften the skin by removing the dead skin layer. Powercort enables the patients from Psoriasis recover faster and prevents recurrences or flare-ups subsequently .

Your doctor has prescribed Powercort since you may be suffering from Psoariasis. Psoriasis is a skin disease wherein the skin loses moisture and exhibits dry and flaky skin due to disturbed immune function. The skin patches of dry skin can be localized (restricted to certain area) or all over the body. At times the dry patches are also seen on the scalp in severe cases. Psoriasis is known to affect men more than women. Stressful episodes are also known to flare up (sudden rise in symptoms) the disease in people apart from environmental and genetic factors .Common symptoms of the disease are red inflamed skin, dry patches which can bleed, soreness around the patches, thick pitted nails. Few food groups like red meat, dairy, junk food, gluten, alcohol are known to lead to flare up and advised to avoid them.

Adverse Reactions/ Side Effects

The following is a list of possible side-effects that may occur from all constituting ingredients of Powercort Cream. This is not a comprehensive list. These side-effects are possible, but do not always occur. Some of the side-effects may be rare but serious.   • Numbness of fingers
  • Stinging
  • Cracking
  • Erythema
  • Folliculitis
  • Skin atrophy
  • Telangiectasia
  • Cushing’s syndrome

Warnings and Precautions

Before using Powercort Cream, inform your doctor about your current list of medications, over the counter products (e.g. vitamins, herbal supplements, etc.), allergies, pre-existing diseases, and current health conditions (e.g. pregnancy, upcoming surgery, etc.). Some health conditions may make you more susceptible to the side-effects of the drug. Take as directed by your doctor or follow the direction printed on the product insert. Dosage is based on your condition. Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens. Important counseling points are listed below.

 

  • Do not take by mouth. Consult with your doctor before using this medicine on open wounds, dry, chapped, irritated, or sun-burned skin.
  • Wash your hands before and after applying Powercort Cream. Clean and dry the skin area to be treated.
  • Do not wash the treated area after immediately applying Powercort Cream. Also avoid the use of other products on the treated area unless directed by your doctor.
  • Applying an excessive amount may result in pilling. Use a thinner layer or lesser quantity of medicine to avoid pilling.
  • Avoid getting this medication in your eyes or nose or mouth.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Powercort Cream is a contraindication. In addition, Powercort Cream should not be used if you have the following conditions: children under 12 years of age, hypersensitivity

Store medicines at room temperature, away from heat and direct light. Do not freeze medicines unless required by package insert. Keep medicines away from children and pets.

 

Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into drainage unless instructed to do so. Medication discarded in this manner may contaminate the environment. Please consult your pharmacist or doctor for more details on how to safely discard Powercort Cream.
