Fiboresp is a medication used for the treatment of Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The drug belongs to the respiratory category ( Antifibrotics).Fiboresp tab exerts its action by inhibiting the action of pro inflammatory markers known as cytokines which thereby reduces quantum of inflammatory cells in the lungs. It is also known to shows reduction in fibroblast production thereby prevents disease progression .The therapy involves taking doses thrice a day for 1 fortnight followed by a gap of few days before therapy is restarted again. Fiboresp offers 30 % better action as compared to conventional anti-fibrotic agents.

Your doctor has prescribed Fiboresp, as you may be suffering from Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis( IPF). This disease is characterized by extensive damage to the lungs which lead to scarring of the lung cavity and thus lead to irreversible lung function. IDF is most commonly seen in older adults . As the name suggests Idiopathic (having no defined cause) , the causes of IDF are unknown , however there are some risk factors like GERD, Rheumatoid arthritis , Scleroderma (skin disease).

Some symptoms of IDF are –

  • Shortness of breath, particularly during exercise
  • Fast, shallow breathing
  • Gradual unintended weight loss
  • Tiredness
  • Aching joints and muscles

Chest X-ray is the preliminary mode of diagnosis the lung scarring and thereby the extent of disease progression.

Since the disease is irreversible , there is no permanent cure however disease progression can be arrested with timely and consistent treatment.

Adverse Reactions/ Side Effects

  • Skin redness or red skin
  • Skin rash

Warnings and Precautions

Before using Fiboresp Tablet, inform your doctor about your current list of medications, over the counter products (e.g. vitamins, herbal supplements, etc.), allergies, pre-existing diseases, and current health conditions (e.g. pregnancy, upcoming surgery, etc.). Some health conditions may make you more susceptible to the side-effects of the drug. Take as directed by your doctor or follow the direction printed on the product insert. Dosage is based on your condition. Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

  • Avoid exposure to sunlight
  • Avoid smoking or use tobacco products
  • Avoid using this drug if you feel ill and unwell and have yellowing of the eyes or skin, with or without dark urine, accompanied by itching of the skin
  • Do not drive or operate machinery
  • Pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to get pregnant
  • Stop using this drug and consult your doctor immediately if you experience a serious allergic reaction
  • Wear sunblock daily and cover your arms, legs and head to reduce

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Fiboresp Tablet is a contraindication. In addition, Fiboresp Tablet should not be used if you have the following conditions:

Currently taking tetracycline antibiotics and fluvoxamine

Hypersensitivity

Pregnant or breastfeeding

Drug Interactions

If you use other drugs or over the counter products at the same time, the effects of Fiboresp Tablet may change. This may increase your risk for side-effects or cause your drug not to work properly. Tell your doctor about all the drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are using, so that you doctor can help you prevent or manage drug interactions. Fiboresp Tablet may interact with the following drugs and products:

  • Amiodarone
  • Birth control pills
  • Bupropion
  • Carbamazepine
  • Cinacalcet
  • Ciprofloxacin
  • Duloxetine
  • Esomeprazole
  • Fluconazole
  • Fluoxetine

Overdosage

Storage

Store medicines at room temperature, away from heat and direct light. Do not freeze medicines unless required by package insert. Keep medicines away from children and pets.
