Mucaryl ( N- acetyl cysteine ) is a respiratory drug which is used in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). N acetyl cysteine is a mucolytic drug (drug that breaks down thick mucus ) which acts by breaking down mucus , reducing the viscosity and thereby makes the airways free for normal air exchange ( respiration ) .N – Acetyl cysteine is also known to possess anti inflammatory ( reduction in swelling of the lungs ) action which helps reduce the bronchoconstriction .The treatment with Mucaryl thus helps to normalize breathing in the patients of COPD.The treatment thereby is known to improve the quality of life by reducing exacerbations ( flareup of the COPD in patients ) .
